Try pistol shooting and training tips ....

Simply come along and give it a go. You do not need to even have a  firearms licence.

We suggest you try the indoor range fist as this range is regularly open. While at the indoor range you may wish to organise a visit to the outdoor range. The outdoor range will give you access to a wider range of shooting disciplines and allows shooting of centerfire pistols.

Please remember our club endeavours to ensure that there is always a committee member and a club member at the indoor range on Monday nights.

It should be noted that Police imposed regulations dictate that a person can only 'try' pistol shooting for a limited time, after 3 visits the person needs to apply to a club for membership and progress towards obtaining your b endorsed firearms licence.

Historically we find most people will know if they want to join the sport after one or two visits and join at this time. One reason for joining quickly is to start the 6 month probation period as soon as possible.

If you can not come to our range, we suggest you use the NZPA contact details for your local club and arrange a go.

To help new and old shooters we have collected the following shooting tips.

Introduction to the Pistol:

Never be afraid of holding a pistol.
As long as you do as instructed they are perfectly safe.
Always point down the range.
Any problems--Leave on the bench and stand back.

Holding the Pistol:

The pistol should be a comfortable grip.
Never try to hold too tight.

Aiming a Pistol:

When shooting at a black target the point of aim is in the white below the black centre.

and finally, Firing the Pistol:

Never Pull the trigger, always squeeze (this helps to stop pistol shake).
